What Will Teaching in the 21st Century be Like?

Professor Dancelot
The video "Professor Dancelot" sends the message of not having adequate resources for teaching in the 21st century. Sitting in a classroom with a teacher and a power point presentation does not fulfill the teaching requirements that are needed for students to learn the material that is being taught. When it was time for students to take a test on the different dances they all were clueless. This is why it is so important for students to have the opportunity to learn hands on in a fun environment.
Teaching in the 21st century
What will be the role of teachers in the 21st century? The author demonstrates the importance of
teachers and how they will teach their students. I use Google everyday. If I do not know something where else do you look but Google. It was not until I started taking EDM310 that there was so much more to Google besides just a search engine. I believe the author of this video is teaching us as future teachers that we do not have to know everything in order to be a good teacher, but utilize our skills, collaborate with each other, teach students to find the answer and use all the available resources.
Who's ahead in the learning race?
When technology comes into play I would have to say elementary children are definitely on top of the game. It is amazing to me of how quickly they catch on to things. I am most definitely on the lower end of learning when it comes to technology. It amazes me what my son is learning in elementary school that I did not know until I was in middle school.
Harness your students digital smarts
I thought it was very interesting when Vicki Davis said "I like to teach my students to learn how to learn". I really started thinking about this and it makes a lot of sense. Students have to be taught the proper way to learn something and by collaborating with others and using PBL. What better way for a student to learn.
Flipping the classroom
I have not heard of "Flipping the classroom" until now. I think this is a great idea! This gives students an idea of what they will be learning the next day and prepare them for the material that they will be learning.
The Networked Student
In this video it showed many different ways networked student can utilize different tools that are offered and why they use them. You are basically teaching yourself and finding answers over the internet so why would you even need a teacher?? In my opinion the teacher plays a very important role in teaching you how to find the right answers in the right way. They are there for support and to show you how to utilize the tools that you need.
Chelsea, I love that you pulled the quote "I like to teach my students to learn how to learn". That is such an important concept and what I think this course is really trying to teach us. You are correct in that we can search whatever we like into Google. It is up to us as educators to teach the students HOW to learn and HOW to use the search engines appropriately. You did a great job summarizing these videos. On "Flipping the Classroom" I had also never heard of it before. However, I disagree with the concept. I think it would put a lot of kids and their parents in a bad situation. Many students don't have the resources to do this. Also, students already go to school for seven hours a day. They should not be required to sit and listen even more when they get home. Review in form of homework is completely different than learning a new concept! I am one who asks questions throughout learning a new concept. So, I would have been completely behind every day without being able to asks to the video in my home. With all that being said, it is good to have a variety of teachers to balance and bounce ideas off one another. My last statement or suggestion would be to review your sentence structure before posting. Two improvements that could be made stand out under "Teaching in the 21st Century". You asked a question but ended the sentence in a period. There is another sentence at the end that is a run on sentence. Thank you for sharing your opinions with us!
